Recipe — Maple Lickin’ Lollipops
12 portions
Metric Imperial

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of maple syrup (preferably very dark syrup for its strong flavour)
  • A few drops of red food colouring (optional)
  • Melted butter

Method

  1. Oil a cookie sheet and place 12 lollipop sticks on it, 2.5 cm (1 in) apart.
  2. In a 2-L (8 cup) glass bowl, mix the maple syrup with the food colouring, then brush the rim of the bowl with melted butter so the mixture doesn’t overflow as it cooks.
  3. Put the bowl in the microwave for about 8 minutes. Let it cool for 2 minutes, then use a soup spoon to create rounds at the end of each lollipop stick.
  4. Let harden for 2 hours and your lollipops are ready.

More about Maple

Maple syrup comes in four classifications, according to colour and taste.

At the start of sugaring season, syrup is generally clear, with a lightly sweet taste. It becomes darker and caramelized as the season goes on.

An unopened can of maple syrup keeps for many years.

Once the can is opened, syrup should be kept in an airtight container in a cool place.

100% pure maple butter contains no butter or dairy.

Like all 100% pure maple products, maple butter comes from the sap of the maple tree… and that’s all.
